We began this business out a love for three things: coffee, the city of Athens, and it's people. We exist to provide the highest quality coffee that can create an enjoyable and educational experience for our customers while also caring for the broader community. Our hope is that with each coffee bought, our product would operate as a vehicle for hospitality in Athens and that the dollars spent on it would stay in Athens. We believe that our time, energy, and money that we give and earn ought to stay in the place that we're from and love: Athens, Georgia. Simply put, we want all things at Shepherd's Roasting Company to be from Athens and for Athens!
Our Staff
Brian Haney - Head Roaster, Founder
Brian began his love for coffee early in his childhood home in Bedford, Kentucky, sneaking sips of his Grandpa's coffee. As he got older, Brian learned that coffee was more than the energy it provided or the sugary sweetness that was added to it, but that coffee in itself could be enjoyable, delicate, and interesting. As Brian began to explore more the intricacies and complexities of preparing craft coffee, he found himself going back further into the science of coffee roasting. Thus, SRC was born!
In addition to enjoying a good cup of coffee (or roasting one), Brian enjoys hiking, biking, playing with his dog, and cocktail mixology.
Kali Haney - Assisting Roaster, Co-Founder
Kali's love of coffee began later in life. During college, Kali tried to start drinking coffee, enduring it for the caffeine boost. Soon after, Kali was pleasantly surprised to discover that coffee didn't have to just be doused with creamer, but could actually be very flavorful on its own. Kali's love of coffee started mostly in enjoying a cup across the table from a good friend, and expanded to learning about the process of grinding, brewing, and tasting the unique notes in different roasts.
In addition to enjoying coffee, Kali enjoys reading, hiking, playing with her dog, Georgia football, and keeping up with her favorite TV shows.
